Project

Regional and Transversal Projects

GLOBO is divided into five projects, each with its own regional focus in West Africa, South and Southeast Asia, Latin America, and (Iberian) Europe. The regional projects (RP) will explore case studies based on extant relics, reliquaries, and written sources that bear witness to the presentation of bodily remains and their roles for different actors in heterogeneous (colonial) societies. A sixth transversal project (TP) will feed the data collected by the RPs’ research, as well as those obtained through questionnaires sent to churches and institutions in the studied regions, into a web-based data management system. This system enables us to visualise and analyse the networks of global relic traffic, their routes, actors, qualities, and quantities.

RP1: West-Central Africa (Kingdom of Kongo)
RP2: South and Southeast Asia (Goa, Macau, Manila)
RP3: Latin America (Andes, Viceroyalty of Peru)
RP4: Latin America (New Spain)
RP5: (Iberian) Europe
